Honestly, you have to feel bad for the Cleveland Browns

Cleveland can’t seem to catch a break. Honestly, you really need to feel bad for them. Despite Deshaun Watson’s off field struggles, the Browns took a $230 million, 3 first round, 1 third road, and 1 fifth round chance on a quarterback to bring back pride to their storied past. The Browns were playing well, but a throwing shoulder injury is never good. He is out for the season and the Browns will need to rely on Dorian Thompson-Robinson (remember they cut now Vikings starting QB Josh Dobbs) to keep their momentum moving in an already difficult AFC North division. So who is Deshaun Watson and is he that good for all the sacrifices made to sign him to a contract?

Deshaun Watson, a name synonymous with skill, determination, and excellence on the football field, has captured the hearts of fans and analysts alike. Born on September 14, 1995, in Gainesville, Georgia, Watson's journey to becoming a star quarterback is nothing short of inspiring.

From an early age, Watson exhibited an innate talent for football. His high school years at Gainesville High School showcased his exceptional skills, leading the team to a state championship in 2012. Watson's ability to read defenses, make precise throws, and extend plays demonstrated a maturity beyond his years, setting the stage for his future success.

Entering Clemson University in 2014, Watson continued to make waves in the collegiate football scene. As the quarterback for the Clemson Tigers, he achieved remarkable success and set numerous records. His leadership and on-field prowess guided the Tigers to two consecutive national championship appearances in 2016 and 2017, winning the title in the latter year.

Watson's college career was marked by numerous accolades, including being a two-time Heisman Trophy finalist. His remarkable statistics, coupled with his poise under pressure, drew the attention of NFL scouts, setting the stage for his transition to the professional ranks.

In 2017, the Houston Texans selected Deshaun Watson as the 12th overall pick in the NFL Draft. The expectations were high, but Watson exceeded them, making an immediate impact. Despite facing challenges typical for rookie quarterbacks, he showcased his adaptability, throwing for 19 touchdowns in just seven games before a season-ending injury cut short his rookie campaign.

Watson's resilience became a defining characteristic of his career. Overcoming setbacks, he returned with even greater determination in the following seasons. His ability to make plays both with his arm and legs, coupled with a keen football IQ, established him as one of the league's premier quarterbacks.

Off the field, Deshaun Watson has been actively involved in philanthropy. His commitment to community service and charitable endeavors reflects a desire to make a positive impact beyond the football field. Watson's dedication to uplifting others has endeared him to fans and earned him respect throughout the NFL.

However, Watson's career took a tumultuous turn in 2021 when he faced legal challenges off the field. Accusations of misconduct raised questions about his future in the league, especially after serving an eleven game suspension. Despite these accusations and the suspension, the Cleveland Browns took a big chance on his future success even after Watson sat for an entire season after his demand for a trade from the Texans.

Deshaun Watson's journey from a small town in Georgia to NFL stardom is a testament to his talent, resilience, and commitment to excellence. While facing adversity, both on and off the field, Watson's impact on the game of football and his communities cannot be overlooked. However, Watson will have missed 39 games over the past three seasons and still has $138 million remaining on his contract. Is this shoulder injury a deal breaker?

Should the Browns, despite not having a first round pick, look towards finding a quarterback in the draft? Paying quarterback money to two quarterbacks is almost impossible, so it will be interesting. The Browns have made their bed and now have to deal with their actions. What would you do?

Ask your question

  • If you were the Browns ownership, what would you do?

  • Just wait for Watson to return

  • Trade for a new quarterback

  • Play out the year and hope for a good draft pick
